Eighth Statistical Mechanics of Soft Matter Conference
The Eighth SM2 Meeting was held at Monash University on 14-15 July, 2022.
SM2 is a local discussion meeting on all aspects of the equilibrium and nonequilibrium statistical mechanics of soft condensed matter, from fundamentals to applications, relating to liquids, colloids, polymers, gels, biological molecules, liquid crystals and other forms of soft matter. The meeting will consist of a single stream of talks and (most likely) a virtual poster session.
SM2 will be preceded by a statistical mechanics winter school, to be held on 12-13 July.
Details
This year, the meeting will be held in hybrid mode, with talks given in person and via Zoom.
A provisional programme is now available.
Registration
Registration is free. Please email the conference organisers if you have not previously registered and are interested in participating in either the winter school or the conference: smsq.meeting@gmail.com.
Note for face-to-face participants: Face-to-face participants will need to be fully vaccinated. A small registration fee might be charged to cover catering of morning and afternoon tea. This will be paid in cash at the start of the conference.
If you wish to be added to our mailing list please send an email to: smsq.meeting@gmail.com.
Winter School
The winter school will be held on 12-13 July, 2022, and will consist of lectures and hands-on workshops in statistical mechanics. It is targeted at research students and postdocs, and registration is free. Note: please email the conference organisers if you have not previously registered and are interested in participating.
Update 4/8/22: links to workshop slides are provided below.
- Tuesday, 12 July: Non-equilibrium molecular dynamics workshop by Billy Todd and Peter Daivis.
- Wednesday, 13 July: Advanced (light, X-ray and neutron) scattering and microscopy workshop by David Paganin, Alison Funston, Susie Seibt, Andy Clulow, Andrew Martin, Rico Tabor, Leonie van’t Hag, and Timothy Petersen.
Local information
The meeting will be held at the Clayton campus of Monash University.
Clayton campus has ample parking available and is accessible via train and a frequent shuttle bus from the train station.
More information about Clayton campus and how to get there is available here.
